New ICO Guidance - sharing data to safeguard children

The Information Commissioner's Office has published new guidance for the education sector on data sharing for safeguarding : Sharing information to safeguard children and young people in the education sector in the UK | ICO

The aim of this new guidance is to give staff in education settings confidence to share information to protect children and young people from harm.

The WASPI service is particularly delighted that the message "In an emergency, don’t hesitate to share information to safeguard a child or young person." is clearly stated, which is reiterated by WASPI in our templates and guidance produced.

Whilst aimed at the education sector, the guidance may be of use to other sectors too.

The WASPI Service were delighted to be referenced in the guidance as a framework for organisations to use in Wales, be given the opportunity to provide feedback and contribute to the case studies into this guidance.

In addition to the bilingual guidance, there are additional resources provided by the ICO on their related Think, Check, Share campaign (see example above) which organisations may wish to use when sharing this information within their organisations.
