The year 2025 marks a significant milestone: the 20th anniversary of the Wales Accord on the Sharing of Personal Information (WASPI). This occasion provides a pivotal opportunity to reflect on, and celebrate, two decades of dedicated effort in advancing information sharing and the principles of information governance across Wales. This celebratory and forward-looking perspective underpins the WASPI 20 Celebrations.

The continued relevance and effectiveness of WASPI over two decades, particularly within the dynamic realm of data protection, points to its inherent adaptability and resilience and this is a fundamental characteristic of the Accord’s success. It underscores that WASPI is more than a static set of rules; it functions as a dynamic framework that actively facilitates ongoing public service delivery and integration.

The profound success of WASPI is built on the engagement and effort of its stakeholders.

This is why we’re excited to host the WASPI 20th Anniversary Awards on 10th November 2025.  The Awards are intended to acknowledge the dedication of individuals and teams who have championed WASPI over the last two decades.

The awards ceremony is a central component of the WASPI 20th anniversary celebrations, designed to acknowledge the profound positive impacts WASPI has had and to showcase its instrumental role in promoting effective and lawful personal data sharing, ultimately achieving better outcomes for patients and service users throughout Wales.

The award categories are intended to highlight contributions made by stakeholders and each award is significant because it points to a vital aspect of the Accord’s success over the last 20 years.

There are four awards categories, designed to highlight contributions made by stakeholders to data sharing in Wales and each award points to a vital aspect of the Accord's success over the last 20 years.


The categories are:
 

  • Collaborative Excellence Award
  • Unsung Hero Award
  • WASPI Advocate Award
  • Excellence through Adversity Award
